Every Sunday evening, Houghton Wesleyan Church brings Houghton students together in the Wesley Chapel for an hour of praise and worship. Students love it and many participate in music on stage.

SHENAWANA

THE QUAD

LOCAL MUSIC

Down at the coffeeshop, many bands that were formed during Houghton years put their CDs in the shop to be sold. CAB sponsored many of the artists to perform this past year.

ADVANCED PHOTOGRAPHY

Houghton is a small school - but that can often be a good thing.

In my advanced photography class, there are only six of us - which means more time spent with the professor and a great informal atmosphere.

For our first assignment we had to turn in examples of a constructed environment.

DONALD MILLER

One of the biggest highlights of February in Houghton, was hearing Donald Miller, author of Blue Like Jazz speak. He spoke during chapel and later that evening. He signed books for students and was very easy going. He was one of the best speakers I have heard in awhile and I am so glad I had the privledge of being here at Houghton to hear him.

LAUNDRY

LAST NITE BEFORE BREAK

Well everything was packed up, most people had gone home - so just the three of us decided to have one last night of just hanging out and having fun! It's tough to say goodbye to your roommate of four years who is graduating early..! But it is definitely not the end..!

Campus Activities Board STAFF

Usually no more than ten people make up the CAB staff. Finally at the end of the year, as projects, papers and exams are all at their peak - we get a chance to slow down. We're helping run a concert by one of Houghton's own student bands and also helping decorate the dining hall for a midnight breakfast for the students during exams. It's been an eventful semester - with great people to work with!

THANKSGIVING DESSERT

Every year the flats and townhouses get together to celebrate Thanksgiving before break. It's a great time of laughter and tons of food - this year our block of townhouses was responsible for making dessert! What is better than chocolate peanut butter cookies for Thanksgiving dessert?! Pumpkin pie is on its way out..

MY INTERNSHIP

On Fridays, I am able to spend all day working with the Department of Social Services for the county. It's a great opportunity to learn about the surrounding area and gain experience in the social work field. Houghton has many opportunities like this and definitely encourage students to take them! I highly recommend it!

MY OWN LAPTOP

One great thing about coming to Houghton is the laptop program they provide. Everyone is provided with a laptop and it's great because you get a four year warranty and the people at the computer helpdesk are great to work with. If you ever need help with software, the Internet, websites, etc. the helpdesk is where to go!

FITNESS ROOM
Today, I had Weight Training class. It's a great opportunity to learn more about the equipment the gym offers you to use almost any time of the week. I am definitely going to miss the availability of this equipment once I graduate!

CHINA STAR
The most recent addition to the Houghton community is a Chinese take-out. I think I have almost been there ten times.. it's great, and breaks up the monatony of the dining hall's menu.

HOMECOMING BANQUET

Sarah definitely stole the homecoming king's crown and looks mighty fine in it. Many of us attended the homecoming banquet and attended the hugely popular SPOT - Houghton comedian talent show.

GLOW BOWLING

Twenty minutes down the road there is a fantastic bowling alley. On Friday nights they spice it up a bit, and glow bowling we go..!

FIELD OF DREAMS

Near the cross country trails, there are a few soccer fields. We definitely beat another outdoor soccer intramural team here the other afternoon.. though I don't think it had anything to do with my poor ball handling skills.. good fun though!

CORN FIELDS

A beautiful day, for a gorgeous walk around the cross country trail. The trail happens to go around a corn field, so we had a little fun.. or at least I did. Apparently there are a ton of spider webs in corn fields.. ick.

JADON LAVIK COFFEEHOUSE

Houghton brings in a few artists a year to come and play. Jadon Lavik recently came and did a great job! A student, Steve Woolsey, played before he came on - and both were amazing! It was definitely packed at the campus center!

One of the most popular hang out spots in Houghton, the coffee shop is located in the campus center where they have tremendous drinks, awesome atmosphere and a great place to meet friends.. and maybe study!

SOCCER GAME

Fall semester is all about the soccer season. At least twice a week there are games for students to enjoy going to. Our girls played against Roberts' Wesleyan and won, 2-0!!
